There have been some major changes around here in the past month.
For one thing, both Woodburn and St. Paul school districts are looking for new superintendents.

I’ve always believed that baking is good for the soul.
If not the baking, then certainly the eating. Cupcakes, in particular.
OK, maybe not so much the cupcakes.

This is certainly a time of transition for the Woodburn Independent.
Just three weeks ago, longtime editor Jason Horton accepted a new position with the city of Woodburn, and now — and the timing is completely coincidental — it’s my turn to let readers of this newspaper know that I will be moving on as well.

It’s not much consolation, but at least now there may be some sense of closure for the family of Tomas Montes-Sanchez, a Woodburn teen who was tragically slain for absolutely no reason.

The concrete barriers erected in The Estates’ parking lot on Feb. 14 make a dramatic point about keeping through traffic away from the area, but the action might be counterproductive.

February 15 is the last day the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce will be accepting Distinguished Service Award (DSA) nominations.
This is the signature event in Woodburn — when the selection committee chooses who will be selected as its Junior and Senior First Citizens, along with some special awards.

The Woodburn School District has had enough trials to face in the past year, with budget woes and, of course, the horrific fire that ripped through part of Woodburn High School last May.
