Kennedy girls climb into second place tie with victory

MOUNT ANGEL — Thanks to a pesky defense and timely shooting in the fourth quarter, the Kennedy girls basketball was able to overcome a stalled offense and come away with a key 34-24 Tri-River Conference victory over Culver on Friday.

MOUNT ANGEL — An untimely foul with 1.5 seconds left in the game allowed Culver to slip away with a 43-42 victory over Kennedy on Friday night. With the clock winding down and the game tied at 42-42, Culver’s Gerson Gonzalez went up for a shot and was fouled by Kennedy’s 6-foot-5 post Max Jaeger.

AURORA — The North Marion boys basketball team got off to a running and gunning start in its Jan. 29 home game versus the Gladstone Gladiators, and for a while it looked like the Huskies were going to run Gladstone (9-7 and 3-2) out of the gym.

PORTLAND — No one had to ask Lucas Randall what he meant when he extended four fingers on each hand Saturday night, arms raised in victory. The senior had just reached the uppermost echelon in Oregon high school wrestling history, becoming the 26th athlete to win four state titles and the first from North Marion to accomplish the feat.
