Welcome sign moved to warehouse as interchange construction ramps up

City officials say a permanent home will be found for the donated sign

Out of sight for now: The attractive “Welcome to Woodburn” sign has been moved into a Public Works Department warehouse for safekeeping as work on the Interstate 5 interchange gets under way. Council member Dick Pugh wants the sign to remain in public at another location.
WOODBURN — A symbol of Woodburn’s pride — a massive “Welcome to Woodburn” sign — is currently languishing in a dank warehouse on the northeast side of the city, and some wonder if it will ever see the light of day again.
