WOODBURN — Woodburn opened its season unlike it has in several years — with a victory. The Bulldogs tossed their way to a 28-0 victory over Summit on Friday at Woodburn High School, getting four touchdowns from three different players. Xavier Fernandez hit Andy Avgi in the first quarter to give Woodburn a 6-0 lead and Fernandez later found Jonaton Rios to give the Bulldogs a 13-0 lead heading into halftime.

AURORA — North Marion’s football team was rolling through opponents last year before losing all-league running back Jordan McCain to a broken arm. The Huskies ended the season on a three-game losing streak, including a 42-14 loss to Banks in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.

WOODBURN — Several years ago, the idea of Woodburn winning the Mid-Willamette Conference title in cross country seemed far-fetched, at best.  After the boys team placed third at the district meet last season and missed qualifying for state as a team by a mere two points, a conference title no longer seemed out of reach.
