Election May 2025: Candidates for the North Marion school board race

Election season is here once again, and Marion County has some empty seats to fill.

The 2025 special district election will take place May 20. All prospective candidates have filed their paperwork, and ballots will be mailed to voters April 30.

In North Marion, four school board seats are up for election. Each race is unopposed, and three of the four candidates have prior experience on the North Marion School District board.

Glenn Holum

Glenn Holum, current North Marion school board director, is running unopposed for the North Marion School District Position 1 school board seat.

In addition to previously serving on the school board, Holum also has local government experience as a current Hubbard planning commissioner and former Marion County Planning commissioner.

Holum is a local gardening entrepreneur and currently works as a greenhouse grower and nurseryman. He earned his diploma from North Marion High School and studied horticulture at Clackamas Community College.

If elected, Holum will serve a four-year term.

Blake Nelson

Blake Nelson, a newcomer to the North Marion school board, is running unopposed for the North Marion School District Position 3 school board seat.

According to Nelson’s filing documents, he has no prior elected or appointed government experience.

Nelson currently works as a farmer at Bountiful Farms Nursery Inc. He graduated from North Marion High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness from Utah State University.

If elected, Nelson will serve a four-year term, replacing current board member Heidi Torian.

Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez, a current North Marion school board member, is running unopposed for the North Marion School District Position 4 school board seat.

Rodriguez joined the school board in May 2024 and is now running for a full term at his seat. According to his filing documents, he had no elected or appointed government experience before serving on the North Marion school board.

Rodriguez is a dentist and graduated from Sandy High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Portland State University before getting his doctorate in dentistry from Oregon Health & Science University.

If elected, Rodriguez will serve a four-year term.

Jenny Scott

Jenny Scott, a current North Marion school board member, is running unopposed for the North Marion School District Position 6 school board seat.

Scott replaced the former Position 6 school board member mid-term and is now looking to serve a full term in the seat.

According to Scott’s filing documents, she had no prior elected or appointed government experience before becoming a board member. However, she did run for another school board position in 2023 but lost.

Scott is a senior analyst at Providence St Joseph Health and formerly attended the Northwest College School of Beauty and Portland Beauty School.

If elected, Scott will serve a four-year term.
