Election May 2025: Candidates for the Gervais school board race

Election season is here once again, and Marion County has some empty seats to fill.
The 2025 special district election will take place May 20. All prospective candidates have filed their paperwork, and ballots will be mailed to voters April 30.
Four school board seats are up for election in Gervais. Each race is unopposed, and three of the candidates have prior experience on the Gervais School District board.
Henry Bustamante
Henry Bustamante, current Gervais school board chair, is running unopposed for the Gervais School District Position 2 school board seat.
Bustamante’s school board seat is set to expire in June, so he is running for another term.
According to his filing documents, Bustamante had no elected or appointed government experience before serving on the Gervais school board, which he has done for the past eight years.
Bustamonte earned his diploma from Gervais High School and currently works in appliance sales.
If elected, Bustamante will serve a four-year term.
Ana B Contreras
Ana B Contreras, current Gervais school board vice chair, is running unopposed for the Gervais School District Position 3 school board seat.
Contreras’ school board seat expires in June, so she is running for another term. According to her filing documents, Contreras had no elected or appointed government experience before serving on the Gervais school board.
Contreras currently works as a communications coordinator with the Oregon Health Authority. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon.
If elected, Contreras will serve a four-year term.
Leanida Kasachev
Leanida Kasachev, a newcomer to the Gervais school board, is running unopposed for the Gervais School District Position 4 school board seat.
According to Kasachev’s filing documents, she has no prior elected or appointed government experience.
Kasachev currently works as a project administrator for I&E Construction and earned her diploma from Gervais High School.
If elected, Kasachev will serve a four-year term, replacing current board member Angie Toran.
Jenny Jones
Jenny Jones, a current Gervais school board member, is running unopposed for the Gervais School District Position 5 school board seat.
According to her filing documents, Jones had no elected or appointed government experience before serving on the Gervais school board.
Jones works in public education, and earned her diploma from Dallas High School.
If elected, Jones will serve a 2-year unexpired term.
